Congratulations, Margarita, on presiding over such a fine celebration last evening.  It really honored the migrant education program and was fun  and  a delicious feast at the same time!  Rod, your benediction left us with a blessing.  I assume M. and Bob sponsored the Center ad again – many thanks.  Once again, it made me proud to be associated with the Peace and Justice Center!

My first  ESL teaching job was with migrant workers in Sweet Valley.  What a memorable experience.  I had answered a newspaper ad to be the assistant but they didn’t have any takers so they let me teach.  While I did survival English with the workers, Wally and Martha – still in high school but good in math – came with me and tutored high school kids in math.   My family always commented on their beauty and intelligence and felt so bad that those students left school early in Texas and arrived after the next school year began; understood why they would just drop out.

So I was especially glad to hear of the fine program and all the staffers and volunteers now working with these kids.  Being honored by the Ethics Institute gives credibility to the program.  Margarita, I enjoyed sitting next to Frances and getting to know her a bit better than just at the Death Penalty group.  She appreciated your inviting her to be your guest.

Best to all,  Bev

“REMEMBERING  THE  SUSQUEHANNA  RIVER  SPIRITS. . . . “

A Ceremony and Workshops for the 15th ANNUAL NORTH BRANCH ART TRAIL AND ARTS FESTIVAL 2008, sponsored by the Greater Wyalusing Chamber of Commerce and The Pennsylvania Council of the Arts.

YES, YOU KNOW, everything has energy, everything is energy. It’s real, and you can feel it. Sunsets, Spring rain, moonlight, a field of Summer’s flowers. Now when energy has history, memories, likes and dislikes, intentions, and an agenda, we say it has persona, it has Spirit. The Susquehanna River has persona, the River has Spirit. She’s kin to Great Sister Water. Yup, that’s one of Plato’s “four elements”; Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. Other Ancients called them “Life’s Sacraments” (remember Baptism?), our most direct connections to the Life Force. So. . .

REMEMBER, REMEMBER. . .long, long ago the Big Guy made Fire. And Fire was so very, very  much that the Big Guy just had to make Water. Suddenly Fire and Water made Earth! And the Big Guy exclaimed “Wow!”, thus creating Air.

LISTEN, LISTEN, the River is singing to us, waiting for us. So in Ceremony we’ll begin at the beginning and go to the Fire, then we’ll traverse East to the River.

We’ll give Sister Susquehanna our gifts, renew our kinship, sing our River Song, ask Her blessings, ask Her advice, and ask how we might help Her too.

Finally, Father Fire carries us home.

CEREMONY:  SUNDAY, 12 October, 2008 at 5:00 pm SHARP!

Come early, learn your River Song.

LOCATION:  At Tom McCarty’s “River Eddy” in Sugar Run.

If you’re arriving by boat, please pull in a good distance away from the poles and ribbons. It is a primitive site.

DIRECTIONS: Heading NW on Rt. 6, (before Wyalusing) turn left immediately after the Wyalusing Valley Children’s Center, before the traffic light, going across the overpass- going over the RR tracks and cross the River bridge, immediately turn left onto Rt. 187, pass Endless Mountains Outfitters, cross creek  bridge, immediately bear left, and turn left down thru gate, ribbons et al.

Uncertain?

Call David and Melody  Buck,   Tel:  570. 746.9140, or Em: kayaks@ptd.net.

SPONSORS: Endless Mountains Outfitters Canoe and Kayak Center.

POETRY READING:

After Ceremony, our Camp Fire hosts the Festivals 15th Annual Poetry Reading, bring a poem or story to share.

DETAILS:

Bring gifts for The River (a small container of clean water) and some dry wood for the Fire.

Bring chairs or waterproof cushions to sit on, and a personal flashlight.

Wear sturdy shoes and warm seasonal clothing.

Bring healthy snacks to share, a mug for tea. No pets, alcohol or drugs.

PROGRAM INFO: Contact Joseph at 570.454.6491 or Em:  jburinsky@psu.edu  for free information about our work.

NOTE THAT the work is neither religious nor Pagan, just essential Spirit stuff common to all.

YES, COME JOIN US AT THE 15th ANNUAL NORTH BRANCH  ART TRAIL AND ARTS FESTIVAL  2008, OCTOBER 10, 11, and 12th.
